The Catholic Church in India has a unique role to play in the Indian community's education, health care, and social welfare, which it fulfills through various activities. In 1989, the Catholic Diocese of Irinjalakuda established St. James Hospital Trust and opened a multi-specialty hospital in honor of His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. James Pazhayattil (First Bishop of Diocese of Irinjalakuda's sacerdotal silver jubilee). His vision has long guided the Diocese of Irinjalakuda's educational initiatives. In the Diocese of Irinjalakuda's silver Jubilee year, the hospital trust founded a branch, St. James Medical Academy.
Since its inception in 2004, Through well pharmaceutical education, St. James College Of Pharmacy Sciences (SJCOPS) has been devoted to improving and increasing skilled human capital to fulfill the challenges of the profession and society.. According to a notification issued by the Government of India's National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions, this institution is a Minority Educational Institution as defined by Article 30 of the Indian Constitution. The standard information about pharmaceuticals and their manufacture, R&D, QAQC, formulation, clinical pharmacy, and their application in various sectors of pharmaceutical sciences is provided by St. James College of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Every year, our college places first in every pharmaceutical stream and receives university rankings in all courses. Aside from academic achievements, our college regularly engages in cultural events at the state and national levels, winning awards on multiple occasions. The institution hosts a variety of workshops, conferences, seminars, symposia, and exhibitions to keep the pharmaceutical community and the general public informed.
The St. James Hospital Trust Pharmaceutical Research Center (SJHTPRC), which has been sanctioned by the DSIR in New Delhi, is dedicated to pharmaceutical R&D in order to become a center of excellence. The SJCOPS is the only pharmacy college affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) that has received DSIR recognition from the Ministry of Science and Technology in New Delhi. The SJHTPRC completed a project funded by the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and conducted technology transfers with pharmaceutical companies. Every year, the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology & Environment (KSCSTE), Thiruvanathapuram provides financial support for PG student projects at SJCOPS. In addition, our college has software and advanced instrument lab for study and research in several areas of pharmaceutical sciences. The Lexicomp program is used in the Department of Pharmacy Practice's Drug Information Center to provide clear, concise point-of-care drug information, such as dose, administration, warnings, and precautions, as well as medical data as a digital resource.
The learning experience at SJCOPS is extremely structured, encouraging students to work hard, gain self-confidence, and develop pursuing opportunities. Many of the college graduates work in famous pharmaceutical companies as well as in government. Graduates work in different areas of the pharmaceutical business around the world, and they constitute a strong network that serves to preserve SJCOPS' legacy. The SJCOPS- Alumni Association NEXUS has two offshoots: Oushadhavijnan -The Research Club and Poonchola -The Nature Club. Nexus provides funding for research/review articles to be published in the Journal of Pharma Innovative Research (JPIR). The Nexus, in collaboration with the placement cell, oversees and manages the placement efforts at Oushada Udhyogamela. The college also has a nature club called Poonchola that aims to raise environmental awareness and enable students to take action on a variety of topics. On the college grounds, we hold regular activities and maintain the Nakshatravanam and Herbal Garden. SJCOPS's green campus provides the ideal environment for students to fulfill their career goals while also contributing to society as good citizens.
